About Corey
I’ve always hated writing a bio. It feels like anything that I write will be either overly self-congratulatory or overly self-deprecating. But here’s my best attempt at a few highlights.
I married up and have two amazing mostly grown up kids.
We planted a church right out of college (not recommended) though the people from that formative 8 years of our lives still are some of our deepest relationships.
I went to seminary in the middle of the our time church planting and learned all of the reasons why what we were doing shouldn’t work (though the church is still thriving!). And as one of my professors said, seminary is strange because they make you sign a statement of faith when you enter and write a doctrinal paper when you leave that affirms that their education caused you to end up exactly where you started (I didn’t…).
After church planting, I started a nonprofit organization supporting young adults experiencing homelessness which I still lead today. After 13 years, it has grown to serve over 300 young people in crisis every year.
Somewhere along the way I had cancer. I don’t anymore, but it often feels like it’s only a matter of time before it returns. I think only other cancer survivors or their families understand the nagging feeling of dread that never quite goes away.
I believe in therapy. It helps. The more somatic the better.
I used to be an evangelical. I’m not anymore. For a lot of reasons that I’ll explore in the blog.
I still really like Jesus and am deeply committed to following his way.

“The problem is, many of the people in need of saving are in churches, and at least part of what they need saving from is the idea that God sees the world the same way they do.”
